Creating and Understanding Nanomaterials
The whole is at least as great as the sum of its parts. The ability to manipulate matter on the nanoscale – the level of only a few, or even a single, atom – has the potential to not only broaden our understanding of structure-property relations of materials, but also to allow us to design materials with specific and useful functionalities. Understanding and manipulating that behavior, even down to the level of individual atoms, is the key to developing new nanomaterials tailored for specific applications.
